part of a band that Lou Pearlman was forming with Chris
Kirkpatrick. Lou Pearlman was later indicted on criminal charges of
investment fraud. The band became known as *NSYNC. The bands name
was creatively named by Justin’s mom who took the last letter of
each of the original band members names (Justin
Timberlake, Chris
Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, Jason
Watkins later replaced by Lance Bass, JC
Chasez). Justin Timberlake was the lead singer of the popular band
*NSYNC and was considered a teen idol. *NSYCN formed in 1995 and

XXXVIII half time show in front of over 140 million viewers.
Timberlake found himself in the middle of a controversy when at the
end of his performance with Janet Jackson, Timberlake tore off a
part of Jackson’s black leather costume that was to correspond to
the song lyrics “gonna have you naked by the end of this song”.
Jackson’s breast was briefly exposed as part of the costume became
detached. Justin Timberlake later apologized for the incident
“sorry that anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction during
the halftime performance of the Super Bowl…It was not intentional
and is regrettable”. Both Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson were
banned from the 2004 Grammy Awards as a result of the controversy
unless they apologized on TV at the event. Jackson felt that her
first public apology was enough and didn’t want to issue another.
Timberlake attended the Grammy Awards and apologized when he
accepted his first of two awards. He won Best Pop Vocal Album for
“Justified” and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “Cry Me a
River”.

member Britney Spears. Their relationship lasted 4 years before
coming to an end in 2002 due to speculations of her infidelity.
Timberlake’s “Cry Me A River” was inspired by their breakup and his
video featuring a cheating look a like Spears. Despite this messy
breakup the two have remained friends. Timberlake then entered into
another long term relationship with actress Cameron Diaz which
lasted yearly 2 years. Many speculations of trouble in paradise
began to surface and in early 2007 the couple confirmed the
predicted split. They issued a joint statement on January 11, 2007
“It has always been our preference not to comment on the status of
our relationship, but, out of respect for the time we’ve spent
together, we feel compelled to do so now, in light of recent
speculation and the number of inaccurate stories that are being
reported by the media. We have, in fact, ended our romantic
relationship and have done so mutually and as friends, with
continued love and respect for one another”. Shortly after Justin
Timberlake and Jessica Biel were spotted together on numerous
occasions and began dating.
